SPOKANE, Wash. -

The volunteers at the Inland Northwest PET Project focus their work around helping disabled people around the world adjust to better endure hardship. Today, they're experiencing their own hardships after thousands of dollars worth of tools and equipment was stolen from their Colbert workshop.

"I'm angry," said Chief Pet Logistician Dick Carpenter. "We're helping those less fortunate. I can't believe this could happen."

The staff of retirees -- all volunteers -- has been building for nearly a decade, and sent almost 2,000 Personal Energy Transportation devices overseas. They are essentially three-wheeled carts powered by your arms, which allows those who have lost their legs to get around effectively.

Now they're searching for new tools after someone broke into their shop through a window and stole roughly $6,000 dollars worth of gear. They've been borrowing tools for days, bringing in personal pieces and taking them home in case of another theft.

"We want justice," Carpenter said. "And we want our tools back.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Six-year-old Denny Curran should be enjoying his last few days of summer before first grade. He should be teasing his brother, splashing in the pool, giving his parents a hard time about vegetables. Instead, Denny is dead, the victim of a horrific, freak bicycle accident that could happen to your child too. "Denny was an extraordinary child," his father Keith Curran told KHQ.
