SPOKANE, Wash. -

On Thursday, Kenan Adams-Kinard, one of the 17-year-old suspects accused of murdering 88-year-old Delbert Belton, spoke out in court during his sentencing. Adams-Kinard told the court that he is "remorseful" for his crime and "asks the Belton family for forgiveness everyday". A nephew of Delbert Belton's asked the court to "give this young man a second chance," referring to Kenan Adams-Kinard. Many Belton family members spoke about Belton's service after being wounded in Okinawa in World War Two and his "dedication" to his family.

On Thursday, Spokane County judge Annette Plese sentenced 17-year-old Kenan Adams-Kinard to 20 years in prison. Adams-Kinard is one of two teens that were arrested for the beating and murder of 88-year-old Delbert Belton on August 22, 2013 in North Spokane. Demetrius Glenn, now also 17, awaits his trial, which is scheduled for March. A week before both teens were expected to go to trial, Adams-Kinard accepted a plea agreement that both prosecutors and his defense attorney had worked on. Adams-Kinard plead guilty to 1st degree murder, on January 7th, in exchange for all the lesser charges being dropped.

The sentence for Adams-Kinard comes 532 days after Belton's murder. Spokane County Prosecutor Larry Haskell asked for a 240 month sentence, which is equal to 20 years, the minimum sentence. Defense attorney Derek Reid also asked the court for a 240 month sentence, to which the judge agreed. Kenan Adams-Kinard will also get credit for time served since his arrest in August of 2013.
