SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane Police say they have arrested a man they believe is responsible for stabbing a woman in the back in downtown Spokane back in January.

After sending out surveillance photos earlier this week, detectives followed up on several tips and arrested 25-year-old Daniel G. Spain for 1st Degree Assault late Thursday night.

Detectives believe Spain and the victim did not know each other and this attack may have been random. The victim walked into a downtown business on January 25 with a knife lodged in her back, though she did not know how it got there.

Spain made his first court appearance Friday afternoon.

According to court documents, Spain was reported to police as the stabbing suspect after his mother saw his picture on TV news broadcasts. When police arrived at Spain's and immediately identified him as the suspect in the photos released.

Spain admitted to investigators that one of his split personalities was responsible for the stabbing.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Six-year-old Denny Curran should be enjoying his last few days of summer before first grade. He should be teasing his brother, splashing in the pool, giving his parents a hard time about vegetables. Instead, Denny is dead, the victim of a horrific, freak bicycle accident that could happen to your child too. "Denny was an extraordinary child," his father Keith Curran told KHQ.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police say they saw a dramatic increase in drug related calls on Tuesday. Police say at least one person has died and officers responded to almost 20 other calls of people acting erratically. Police are looking into whether there is a drug on the street that is "creating adverse health effects." Reported behavior is consistent with a stimulant, causing people to hallucinate and act in an unpredictable and sometimes violent manner.
