SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the two people who were killed because of a house fire Saturday morning.

The medical examiner says 38-year-old Stacy Hains and 38-year-old Christopher Rusco both died because they inhaled too much smoke. Hains was rescued from the 4th Ave. home, but later died at the hospital.

The Spokane Fire Department tells KHQ it believes the cause of the fire was an accident, but fire investigators are still going over the evidence.

Spokane fire crews are investigating a house fire that has left at least two people dead Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. when fire crews received a call about a fire at 2213 E. 4th Ave. Firefighters report seeing a person jump from a second story window and leave the scene.

Spokane Fire Chief Bobby Williams says a second floor bedroom was completely on fire. Although crews were able to put the fire out quickly, two victims were found inside. One woman was pronounced dead on the scene, another woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Williams says a third person may also be dead in the house. He also says some animals were lost in the blaze. Crews continue to search the home.

Williams reports it is too early to say the cause of the fire.

The home did not have working smoke detectors. The investigation is ongoing.
