LEWISTON, Idaho - A man was arrested early Sunday morning shirtless, covered in dirt and carrying a golf club following a chase and a home break-in.

The incident began just after midnight on Sunday, when a Lewiston police officer tried to help a man whose truck was stalled in the 1400 block of 8th Street.

When the officer pulled up behind the truck, the man, identified as 20-year-old Kevin Simmons of Clarkston, Washington, began to run from the officer. The truck rolled backward and hit the patrol car. Simmons ran between residences.

During the course of the investigation, Lewiston Police received a call about a burglary. It was determined that the man who broke in to the house was the same man who stole a truck before it stalled.

An unsuccessful search for Simmons was conducted with assistance by Idaho State Police, Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office and Asotin County Sheriff's Office K-9 team.

Later in the morning, just before 4 a.m., another Lewiston Police officer spotted Simmons near the home that was burglarized. Additional officers showed up and arrested Simmons for vehicle theft and obstructing law enforcement. Additional charges are pending.
