UPDATE: Investigators determine robbery and sexual assault report false

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

UPDATE: The Spokane Police Department says that investigators determined a report of robbery and sexual assault in North Spokane to be false.

On February 19, 2015, at about 1:00 pm, Spokane Police received a report from a woman on the 1900 block of E. Cataldo Ave. She said that she was pulled over by a person in a white Crown Victoria-style vehicle, robbed and sexually assaulted. Spokane Police officers and detectives from the Major Crimes Special Victims Unit responded to that call.

After an investigation, SVU detectives reported that the incident was false. They said it may have been reported to conceal a drug transaction.

SPD says the investigation into what they call the "false report" is ongoing.

PREVIOUS: Thursday night Spokane police were investigating the robbery and assault of a woman by a man, she says, who was impersonating a police officer. It happened around 3pm in east Spokane, near North Magnolia and East Sinto.

The woman says she was driving in the area and was pulled over by what she thought was a Spokane Police officer. She says the person even had a blue and red light on his dash. She pulled into an alley to speak with the "officer", who, she says, was dressed all in black and looked just like an officer. That's when she says, he robbed and assaulted her.

The real Spokane police quickly responded and set up a perimeter around the scene but didn't find anyone. Police are investigating.
