NEZ PERCE COUNTY - The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office located a horse who was in poor health after getting entangled in a barbed wire fence about three miles from the nearest road on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The horse was rescued from the fence and examined. The owner of the property where the horse was found did not own the horse.

The next day, after seeing a picture of the horse on the news, the horse's owner contacted the doctor who did the examination. He was then interviewed by the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office.

It was determined the unfortunate circumstances led to the horse's condition. The owner told deputies the horse is a range horse that was kept with other horses and had free feed, protein licks, selenium and trace mineral blocks as well as water at the time it became stuck in the fence. He told deputies it was not uncommon for him not to see horses for long periods of time because the horses roam.

The owner made arrangements with the doctor to pay the bill for services rendered and take care of the horse.

The doctor told the Sheriff's Office that he felt the horse would receive proper care if released to the owner, and that the animal was not starved, but  became dehydrated after it got stuck in the fence.

The owner has taken the horse to an area in Nez Perce County so the sheriff's office could monitor it, and made it clear that the sheriff's office could have access to the horse for inspection at any time.
