Hot Clicks: Homeless child stands in freezing temperatures as people pass by

Posted: Updated:

KHQ - If you saw a homeless child stand on the sidewalk in the middle of winter wearing nothing but a torn shirt, torn jeans and socks, what would you do? Would you look straight ahead, pretending not to see the child? Would you stop for a second, almost moved to do something but then continue on your way? Or would you take time out of your busy day, to stop and help?

Well Ock Tv, a group known for their YouTube videos which usually involve pranks wanted to find out exactly what people would do. So, they set up a social experiment using their younger brother to pose as a homeless child. Their brother stood on a sidewalk in New York City in freezing temperatures (5 degrees Fahrenheit). He appears to be anywhere from 13-16 years old. He stands shivering as he holds a sign, waiting for someone to offer help, but dozens of people pass him by.

He then steps inside the plastic bag he is holding and curls up on the cement to try and stay warm, but people continue to pass by. Every once in a while it looks like people stop and think about helping the boy, but then continue waking. Finally a man stops, a man who happens to be homeless himself. He gives the boy the coat off his back and starts to ask him questions. "Where are your parents?" "Are you homeless?" "Are you hungry?"

The two men behind Ock TV who made the video, moved by what the homeless man did, reveal themselves and give the man 500 dollars. Ock TV claims their brother was standing in the cold for almost two hours before the homeless man finally stopped and helped. Some people have questioned the timeline though saying at times in the video it looks like people stop and are about to help, but then the video cuts away.

However, whether is took two hours, 30 seconds or five minutes for someone to stop, does it really matter? What would you do? What should you do? The video ends with a quote that's a great message to ponder:

"If you wait until you can do everything for everybody, instead of something for somebody, you'll end up doing nothing for nobody."
