WATCH: This dog can read!

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Dog trainer Maureen Ward says she's taught a dog how to read!

Ward says Mia, the smart and creative Mini Australian Shepherd, can read the commands she's written on cards that she shuffles every time she runs through them. Now, Ward says Mia can sit, shake, wave, play dead, and many other tricks simply by reading the cue cards.

But Mia isn't the only dog to go through Ward's training. Bower the Bernese Mountain Dog can also apparently read the commands on Ward's cards and can even break dance.

So how does Ward do it? she begins with -a vocal command like sit. The dog learns a hand signal for that word. Eventually the dog recognizes corresponding bold letters.

Another trainer taught Ward how to do one word several years ago, and she thought, why not see how many words they can read.Ward says the dogs are big celebrities at senior homes too.
