MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. -

One local nursing home may lose its medicare and medicaid services and federal funding. Last year, they were cited for 40,000 violations, and the organization People First says some of those violations involve physical abuse.

Lakeland Village Nursing facility is home to 83 seniors who require 24-hour care. Over the past years the administration for this facility has been cited by the federal government for several infractions, and People First says that out of those citations, "10 have really stood out as being egregious."

John Lemus, an advocate for the organization People First, says those violations include problems with food storage, medications, and even unnecessary restraints. He believes the caretakers at Lakeland Village are being quote, "careless."

John Wiley, who works for the Department of Social and Health Services says that they are, "still in the process of achieving compliance."

He says they have until March 19 to prove that the nursing facility is up to par with where the government says they need to be, or risk losing their funding.

He doesn't think there is any immediate danger that they will be shut down, and says they will continue to make improvements and fight to keep their funding.

Lakeland did not comment on the People First claims, but DSHS did issue a statement saying that despite losing millions of dollars in federal funding six years ago, and 100 staff positions, they continue to make improvements to the facility.
