SPOKANE, Wash. -

Mayor David Condon announced the start of the construction season for the City of Spokane.

"This construction season will see considerable activity," says Condon about the 43 projects worth $73 million scheduled for 2015.

Construction began on Monday on a 900,000 gallon tank which will go in off of Northwest Blvd. The storage facility will hold wastewater and stormwater, and will help improve the health of the Spokane River. That is expected to cost about $7 million to construct.

Crews have already begun maintenance on area roadways to seal cracks in arterials and on residential streets and the Division St. Gateway project, which will beautify the entrance from the city to I-90.

Kyle Twohig, Operations Manager of Engineering, says the planning has spanned several months and is ongoing. "We've worked very closely with the citizens to ensure that we have designed the best projects possible. It will be one of the busiest construction seasons in recent memory."

In addition to new construction, the city will be completing projects that are already underway. "We'll be up on the South Hill continuing the work we did on High Dr. from where it ended on Bernard and continuing on to Grand," says Twohig.

Mayor Condon says the city recognizes that the interim is disruptive while things are in progress. The city will be stepping up public information to ensure that residents are aware of when and where construction will be taking place and will remind people to continue to frequent businesses in the construction zones.

"They're vital to our community and need our support and patronage as we improve the streets to their businesses," says Condon.

Mayor Condon adds that these construction projects help the local economy.
