SPOKANE, Wash. - David Ellis, the man arrested by Spokane Police Monday morning for stealing a Doubletree Shuttle bus, made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

The judge set Ellis' bail at $40,000 and his next court appearance is scheduled for later this month.

911 first received a call around 8:40 a.m. Monday morning when a man reported another man, later identified as Ellis, punched him in the face and tried to steal his vehicle. Ellis than ran away on foot.

Dispatchers received another call about 10 minutes later. Another person reported that a man, again identified as Ellis, attempted to take her vehicle, but was unsuccessful.

Another 10 minutes went by before 911 dispatch received a third call from a man on W. Spokane Falls Blvd. He said he was assaulted by a man who attempted to steal his car, but fled toward the hotel and convention center when he was once again unsuccessful.

Just before police arrived on scene, they say Ellis stole a hotel shuttle bus.

Ellis drove the bus into the backyard of a home near Mallon and Elm in North Spokane.

No one was injured and police quickly took the man in to custody. He was arrested for first degree robbery and second degree assault. Additional charges are anticipated.

Ellis is suspected of stealing several other vehicles. Investigation into these and other incidents is ongoing.
