CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. - A woman who fell victim to a scam now has her money back thanks to a collaboration between the Chelan County Sheriff's Office and the New York City Police Department.

Earlier this week Deputy Paul Nelson took a report from a woman who said she had sent $17,500 in cash to a New York Address after she received a phone call saying she had won the Publishers Clearing House $1,000,000 prize. The caller said the money was for fees associated with winning the prize.

The woman sent the money, but due to a carrier problem, it was returned. The caller then instructed the woman she would have to send $18,000 in cash to claim the prize because of the delay in the initial fee requirement.

Deputy Nelson tracked the package overnight and once he saw it was delivered, he called the 113th Precinct in New York City to provide them with probable cause information. A New York Police Department detective then dressed as a delivery person and contacted the suspect to verify delivery of the package. The suspect told the undercover detective he did receive the package and even told him where it was stored in his residence.

Based on Deputy Nelson's information and the assistance of the NYPD, the suspect was arrested and all of the money was recovered.
