SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police report 24-year-old James A. Bench will be charged with second degree assault following the disappearance of his girlfriend and two kids on Thursday.

Police received a call Thursday night to report Bench was carrying his unresponsive girlfriend, Lindsay Montano, from the house to his car. They said Bench put their kids, a two-year-old and a four-year-old, into the car and then drove off.

The family was found safe, and Bench was arrested on unrelated warrants. His girlfriend was taken to the hospital.

Spokane Police Spokeswoman Monique Cotton said Saturday that police obtained additional evidence that allowed them to keep him in jail on the assault charge. Cotton says the investigation is ongoing.
