VIDEO: Take a rare look inside a hibernating bear's den in the wild

Posted: Updated:
HARTFORD, Conn.- Spring is here and that means hundreds of bears will come out of hibernation.  State biologists in Connecticut are tracking down bear dens to monitor the bear population.  They say bear dens are cramped, damp, and a bit smelly.  Biologist Paul Rego says, "When you know how many females are breeding, how many cubs they're producing, how many cubs survive from year to year, you can get an idea how fast the population of black bears will be growing."

After about an hour of trudging through knee-deep snow and listening for a ping from a radio beacon attached to bear the state has been monitoring, they finally found her and her cubs.
