SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane Police have confirmed that the woman who was taken to the hospital yesterday for a suspected drug overdose, only to find out she had a gunshot wound to the stomach, has died.

Her identity has not yet been released.

Spokane Police Department Spokeswoman Monique Cotton said in a press release on Tuesday that officers were called to a house near E. Diamond and N. Regal in east Spokane at around 10:30 am. Cotton said a man had called 911 saying there was something wrong with a woman at the house and there may have been a gunshot fired.

Once officers arrived, they found the woman vomiting and appearing to be suffering from a drug overdose. Cotton said there was a large amount of drug paraphernalia at the home, leading officers to believe drug use had likely taken place. Medics took the woman to the hospital and that's where it was discovered that she had actually been shot in the lower abdomen. Cotton said on Wednesday morning that the woman had died from her injuries.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
