VIDEO: Tortoise with cracked shell gets help from 3D technology

Posted: Updated:
GOLDEN, Colorado-  A Colorado tortoise with a cracked shell is receiving a new prosthetic one, with the help of cutting-edge technology.  Nico Novelli owns Canyon Critters Reptile Rescue in Golden.  He says poor nutrition has led to pyramid-like formations on the shell of a tortoise named Cleopatra.  Novelli says tortoise roughhousing also adds to the problem. 'They climb on each other and that puts too much pressure on the points.'

Roger Henry is a student at Colorado Technical University. He spent hundreds of hours tooling with 3D software to create a prosthetic shell. He made the design a reality at the 3D printing store in Denver. The tortoise is also going to get straps to secure the new shell in.
