KHQ.COM - -

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office and the Spokane County Prosecution Attorney's Office, bomb threats are not very common in the region.

The attorney's office said since 1998, 48 cases have been filed with regard to the RCW 9.61.160 statute, which covers threats to bomb or injure property:

"It shall be unlawful for any person to threaten to bomb or otherwise injure any public or private school building, any place of worship or public assembly, any governmental property, or any other building, common carrier, or structure, or any place used for human occupancy; or to communicate or repeat any information concerning such a threatened bombing or injury, knowing such information to be false and with intent to alarm the person or persons to whom the information is communicated or repeated."

Of the 48 cases, 12 have resulted in guilty convictions.

Investigators are hoping to make this most recent bomb threat at University High School in Spokane Valley part of the 25 percent of cases that they've completed.

The sheriff's office says the threat came to the school in an email. Investigators are working to trace back the threat to the sender.

"This is similar to back in the day when I was in school, people pulling fire alarms and so on. But now, people can do it behind the privacy of a keyboard or a text message from a cell phone or something. We need to start holding people accountable for their actions and what they're doing. We would very much like to find the individuals involved with this," said Dep. Mark Gregory.

Anyone with information on the recent bomb threats is asked to call Crime Check: 509-456-2233
