    EMERYVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A baby raccoon halted Northern California traffic after he crawled inside the engine compartment of an SUV stopped at a traffic signal.    The East Bay Times reports that police Lt. Fred Dauer thought he had come across a traffic accident in Emeryville on Friday when he saw cars parked and people standing around using their cellphones.

    SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A Texas charter school has apologized after a teacher asked students in an eighth grade American history class to list the positive and negative aspects of slavery.    Officials at Great Hearts Monte Vista in San Antonio say the teacher who distributed the worksheet has been placed on leave and the school would be reviewing the history textbook associated with the lesson.

    Verne Troyer, the actor best-known for his role as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers series of comedy films has died. He was 49 years old. Representatives issued a statement on the actor's Facebook page Saturday saying in part, "Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible."
