Update: WSP: Highway 291 brush fire contained

FORD, Wash -

Update: Washington State Patrol has advised that the fire near Ford by Highway 291, officially called the Amy Lane fire, has been contained as of 7 p.m. Tuesday. WSP reports Department of Transportation and fire units will remain on scene Tuesday night. The Department of Natural Resources estimated three hours until full containment.  The fire burned 20 acres. No homes were lost. Highway 291 at Corkscrew Canyon reopened just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources is reporting two brush fires Tuesday afternoon.

The first fire is located near Ford by Highway 291. At last report that fire has burned 20 acres. Multiple fire crews are on scene from Spokane and Stevens Counties as well as DNR. Helicopters are also dropping water on the fire.

Washington State Patrol reports SR 291 has been closed 10 miles south of Tum Tum in Stevens County after the fire jumped the highway. Stevens County Fire Department is on scene. The road is closed from Corkscrew Canyon at milepost 28 north to SR 291.

Our reporter on the scene of the fire at Highway 291 says homes are threatened but no official evacuations are in place   

A second brush fire is being reported in a remote area near Seven Bays in Lincoln County. DNR reports the fire is 10 acres at last check. Very few details are known about this second brush fire, but DNR is en route and local fire crews are on scene.
