AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -

Crews say a fire that was burning just north of Fairchild Air Force Base is 100% contained, and they are now working to mop up hot spots. One garage burned down, no homes burned, and no one is injured.

The fire was in the 2400 block of N. Chris Lane and crews from Airway Heights and Spokane County Fire District #10 were on scene. Officials tell us it was about five acres in size. Spokane Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer says there were some people who were evacuated.

Fire chief Brian Schaeffer said some of the resources, like a helicopter and ground crews, used in the Fish Lake fire, were brought to this fire very quickly.

Firefighters do not yet know the cause of the fire.

NEW YORK (AP) - Scientists say they've confirmed that puzzling fossils from more than 500 million years ago are traces of an animal.    That would make it one of the earliest known creatures.    The fossils are impressions in rock: oval shapes with internal lines, looking somewhat like a leaf imprint densely packed with veins.  First described in 1947, they are found in Australia and Russia.
