SPOKANE, Wash. -

The City of Spokane announced they'll tear down the Under the Freeway skate park early next month due to concerns over graffiti and crime.

The city says there are plans in the works to build a new wheel park in one of three parks, Riverfront, Cannon or Liberty.

"That sounds fantastic," skater Walter Pierowski said. Pierowski brought his kids to Under the Freeway for the first time Friday.

"It's sketchy like I thought," he told KHQ.

That's why the city wants a new place, and a fresh start.

They say the Parks and Recreation Division is working with a skate park design company, and has already allocated approximately $288,000 from a previous Park bond.

The city will begin demolishing the UTF on August 3rd.

NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
