Know Before You Go: Map of road closures due to wildfires

SPOKANE, Wash. -

With wildfires still raging in Washington, the Department of Transportation has released a map that includes current road closures in the state due to wildfires. The map also includes existing fire perimeters as provided by the USGS. 

Road closure information on this map will be updated at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily or as needed. Last update time of road closures can be found by clicking on a road closure feature in the map. Fire perimeter information is updated by USGS daily. Double clicking on the map above will zoom into an area you are curious about.

    KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho - Panhandle Health District (PHD) and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) have issued a health advisory for Fernan Lake. PHD is urging the public to use caution when recreating in or near the water. Water quality monitoring confirmed the presence of cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae. Blue-green algal blooms have the potential to produce dangerous toxins in areas of the lake.

    COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - A judge has picked the jury for the trial of a man charged in the deaths of three people who died in a 2016 boat crash on Lake Coeur d'Alene, but the start has been delayed. Wednesday, both the prosecutors and the defense were hoping to begin opening arguments, but they are still tied up in motions that have delayed the start. The jury was selected in the case for Dennis Magner, but they were asked to leave while both sides continue their motions.

The fire is located seven miles east of Kittitas in the median and right shoulder at Mile Post 122. An alternate route is available for eastbound travelers at exit 115. An estimated time for reopening is not available at this time. Washington State DNR is sending engines, three airplanes and two choppers to the fire.

    DENVER (AP) - The Trump administration says it may pick a new Western headquarters for the nation's largest land management agency in the next six to eight months. Susan Combs, a senior adviser to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, told a Senate committee Thursday that Zinke is committed to moving the Bureau of Land Management headquarters from Washington to the West. The bureau is part of Zinke's department. Combs offered no hints about where the new headquarters will be.
