Colville Complex fire burns about 8,600 acres

Posted: Updated:
STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. -

UPDATE: August 25, 10:20 a.m.:

Fire crews are making good progress on the Colville Complex.  Public Information Officer Howard Hunter says the fire hasn't made any significant movement for the last 3 to 4 days.  Hunter says the Marble Valley Fire is 3,087 acres and 95% contained.  He says the Gold Hill Fire is 557 acres and 87% contained.  The biggest fire in the complex, the Graves Mountain Fire, is 5,003 acres and 12% contained.

Hunter says Oregon Incident Management Team 2, along with national guard members, and firefighters from around the country are mopping up hot spots.  They're also working to protect the Highway 20 corridor and the power grid into Ferry County.

Previous Coverage:

The Colville Complex fire, which is made up of three fires burning in Stevens and Ferry Counties, continues to burn Monday. But two of those fires are nearing full containment.

The Marble Valley fire, burning near Addy, Washington, has burned about 3,087 acres Monday with 95 percent containment. The Gold Hill fire is about 557 acres and about 85 percent contained. Firefighters continue to make excellent progress on these two fires and work will focus on mopping up 100 feet from the fire's perimeter and 200 feet around structures.

The third fire that makes up the Colville Complex, called the Graves Mountain Fire burning in Ferry County, grew about 250 acres Sunday. That fire is now 4,901 acres and about 8 percent contained. Work on the Graves Mountain Fire focused on establishing and improving control lines along the southern and eastern flanks to protect powerline and highway infrastructure and structures near the fire.

With active fire near Hwy 20, travelers along that route are reminded that there will be heavy smoke, fire apparatus leaving and entering the highway and perhaps aircraft working in the area. Drivers should travel at speeds appropriate to the conditions, use their headlights and drive defensively.

For fires in Ferry, Stevens, and Pend Oreille Counties has been established to answer public questions and/or forward callers to the correct Incident Management Team or County Emergency Operations Center that they need to reach. The call center can be reached at: (509) 684-7260, -7261 or -7263. Phones will be staffed daily from 7 am to 9 pm.
