SPOKANE, Wash. -

"I'm a typical guy that goes to work, helps coach football, feeds my kids dinner, and go to bed," said Jerry Griffin.

But what happened to Jerry a few weeks ago, in the middle of the night, in his own home, was far from typical.

"I heard a loud crash, and ran upstairs," Griffin remembers. "I turned around and someone came out of my daughters bedroom and I watched him fire a gun at me."

The bullet hit Jerry in the foot.

"Through one side, out the other."

Now, his children are afraid to come home.

"They got to sit there and watch their dad bleed for a while," he said.

But eventually, they will all head home.

"We can't let evil people just win like that, you can't," he said. "You go back and try to make better memories."

Memories that are better than the ones some people created for them.

"It could happen to any one of us, that's the real tragedy in this whole thing."
