COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

An effort to change the lives of families who have children living with disabilities literally born out of metal and sparks. Jackson Costa, a 19-year-old fabricator put his work aside one day and made a special gift for a special little girl.

"I just wanted to do something great for her," says Costa.

The young man spent more than eight hours building an angel for 16 month old Teagan, the daughter of family friends Kelsey and Josh Bartoo. Teagan was born with two genetic disorders, one gives the toddler a risk of life-threatening seizures and the other gives her a 600 times more likelihood for childhood cancer.

"Our doctor told us something was wrong," says Kelsey Bartoo, Teagan's mother. "But we never expected it was something like this. So it definitely came as a shock."

It was Teagan's diagnosis that sparked Costa's gift, but even he wasn't ready for the popularity that would follow it.

"It was pretty crazy," says Costa. "People really like them and I've made 16 angels so far."

Not knowing what to do with the money, the two families decided to create a foundation called Teagan's Angels. Bartoo says it's a way to leave a legacy behind for her daughter. The money collected from the Angels goes toward other families who have children living with disabilities.

"We have to go to Utah to get treatment and that's a lot of money," says Bartoo. "Not a lot of families can afford something like that, so hopefully this will help."

In order to help raise awareness for this new philanthropy, Costa has put angel number 17 up for auction at the Fall Fest Hoedown put on by the Cancer and Community Charity.

"Everyone needs a guardian angel," says Costa.

The auction runs from 6 - 9 p.m at the Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn.

Tickets are $45 per person.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police Capt.
