    SEATTLE (AP) - A school district in central Washington state is moving to four-day weeks when the school year begins later this month. KING-TV reports the Waterville School District will hold classes Monday through Thursday, giving students and faculty three-day weekends. Superintendent Tabatha Mires says the change aims to increase staff retention and recruitment as well as boost attendance and improve classroom experience.

    SEATTLE, Wash. - The Washington State Patrol says a handcuffed drunken-driving suspect is dead after jumping from the Highway 520 floating bridge into Lake Washington.  Authorities say a trooper stopped the 31-year-old Kirkland man a little after 1:30 a.m. Friday. After being handcuffed, he resisted being placed in the trooper's patrol car and then leaped off the bridge.

    NEW YORK (AP) - Aretha Franklin's funeral will be held Aug. 31 in her hometown of Detroit.    The late singer's publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, said Friday that the funeral, to be held at Greater Grace Temple, is limited to the Queen of Soul's family and friends.    Public viewings will take place Aug. 28-29 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

    TWISP, Wash. - A level 3 evacuation order has been issued for people living along Twisp River Road west of the Buttermilk Creek intersection Friday. People living in the area should leave immediately and evacuate east toward Twisp. The Crescent Mountain Fire is currently on Snowshoe Ridge advancing down drainage toward Eagle Creek.
