Family whose car was stolen gets a surprise

SPOKANE, Wash. -

A local mom had her car stolen in front of her home this week. It's definitely an inconvenience, but Ashley Stephens told KHQ she was devastated.

"I feel guilty for the kids, that they have to walk and it's so cold," she said.

Stephens and her kids were forced to walk a long way to school and back. With freezing temperatures on the way, it was going to be a long winter for the Stephens family. Until a KHQ viewer stepped in.

In 24 hours, everything can change.

On Friday, Ashley Stephens stood in their yard waiting for their second chance to arrive. They stood in awe as it pulled up.

"See that car? That's our new car. No more walking. That car right there is our car," Stephens tells her kids.

Sammy Eubanks is the man who brought them this moment. The sedan was sitting at his home.

"I saw the story on the news. I couldn't imagine being in that situation. I couldn't have it."

Then it hits Ashley. No more walking in the cold.

"I am grateful. Thank you so much," she says, hugging Eubanks.

The gesture probably cost him hundreds or even thousands of dollars. But how do you put a price tag on a moment like this?
