SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Ridpath Hotel has been a shuttered property for the past seven years.  Now there are two groups who want to restore the building, but their vision for the future of the Ridpath is very different.

Back in 1952, the hotel was the place to go, even Elvis Presley stayed there during a visit to Spokane.  In recent years, windows have been broken out by vandals, and the hotel has become a forgotten relic, despite the many people who have tried to do something with it.

The best bet at renovation came earlier this year when developer Ron Wells pulled the hotel out of legal quicksand.  Wells' vision called for condos, restaurants, apartments and more.

On Friday KHQ spoke to Stephen Antonietti, head of acquistions for Crystal City LLC, a group who put in a competing bid for the Ridpath and outbid Wells on 80 percent of the building, according to Antonietti.

The group wants to reopen it as a hotel with four new restaurants, four nightclubs, and new conventions spaces.

Antonietti says the group has worked with Visit Spokane to make this happen because he says Spokane wants to become a "super convention city."

Tim Robinson at Visit Spokane says that isn't the case.  Robinson says Spokane has enough hotels for the size conventions that are coming to town and that with the addition of the Davenport Grand it will take three to five years to fill all the rooms that were added with its opening.

We also put in calls to Ron Wells, but he hasn't not commented at this point.
