The Native Air helicopter crashed Tuesday evening on a mountainside about 12 miles north of Superior as it flew from Mesa to Glove.

The Native Air helicopter crashed Tuesday evening in east-central Arizona, about 12 miles north of Superior as it flew from Mesa to Globe.

Pinal (pih-NAL') County Sheriff Paul Babeu (BAB'-yoo) didn't release names but said all three crew members were men from the Phoenix area.

Babeu says the surviving paramedic is a 38-year-old Gilbert resident. He said the pilot also was from Gilbert and that the nurse was 38 and from Mesa. The pilot's age wasn't available.

An Air Force helicopter rescued the injured survivor from the crash site in rugged terrain about four hours after the crash and about two hours after the wreckage was first spotted by search aircraft.

An Arizona sheriff says the sole survivor of a medical helicopter crash carrying three crew members was seriously injured and is hospitalized in critical condition.

Pinal (pih-NAL') County Sheriff Paul Babeu (BAB'-yoo) says search aircraft spotted the crashed Native Air helicopter Tuesday night in extremely rugged terrain about 12 miles north of Superior, Arizona.

Babeu says the crashed helicopter was spotted on a mountainside about two hours after it was reported missing.

Air Methods owns the company operating the aircraft. They said the chopper was carrying a pilot, a paramedic and a nurse. Air Methods spokeswoman Christina Brodsley and Babeu said two crew members were killed.

Babeu declined to identify the survivor, but said that person was able to use a light to signal a search helicopter.
