The scene inside Old World Christmas The scene inside Old World Christmas
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The countdown to Christmas continues and as people set up their trees and decorate their homes they will undoubtedly be reminiscing over Christmas ornaments they've had for years.

But where do those ornaments come from?  It may be closer than you think.

Inside the doors of Old World Christmas on Main street East of Freya is a holiday experience for the ages.

"They're all mouth blown, they're all handpainted," says Rob Waples, sales manager for Old World Christmas, of the more than 1100 designs of ornaments throughout the outlet center.

"I think it's beautiful in here," says Kristie Pangburn, who has been shopping at Old World Christmas for 23 years.

"My tradition was to bring my daughter in when she was smaller to pick out a few ornaments every year," says Pangburn.

Kristie is a huge fan of the ornaments and says they adorn her entire tree.

She's not alone.

"The first day we're open there's usually a line out to the street," says Waples.

The appeal is much broader than just locals.  The ornaments are known around the world.  Designer, Sookie Carrano says that's because they pay close attention to detail and listen to the customers for new design ideas.

"We get web suggestions daily," says Carrano.  "I read through every single one of them."

Once they come up with the concept it's drawn up, sculpted, molded, approved and only then does it go to get painted and glittered.

"It's truly rewarding being in my position to work on those and see them come to life," says Carrano.

This year they introduced more than 160 new designs.

"They range from retro items, to foods," Carrano says.  This year they are even launching the national park ornaments.

"A lot of the designs are very classical but we've seen a real trend lately toward ornaments that fit somebody's lifestyle," says Waples.

Let's not forget the company's best selling ornament year after year.

"We sell more pickle ornaments than any other ornament in our line," Waples tells KHQ.

The retail outlet is only open weekdays from 11 to 3 until December 23rd if you want to get your hands on some of these ornaments.   If you miss that deadline you'll be waiting until their Christmas in July event.
