Neighborhood fed up with drive-by shootings

SPOKANE, Wash. -

Three drive-by shootings in November and December – that’s what one neighborhood is dealing with.

Spokane Police say the shootings are all at the same home in the 1900 block of E. Central in Northeast Spokane. Detectives say the house used to have gang ties, but the people who live there now are a retiree and his family, including young kids.

Those in the neighborhood say it’s a nice neighborhood, but the shootings have shaken them up.

“It’s very unnerving to be sitting in your own home and you don't feel safe because you're afraid there's going to be a stray bullet or something,” says Charlotte Dean, a neighbor.

For the victim, it’s hard for him to sleep.

“Very nerve-wracking when you don’t know what's going to happen day-to-day,” Fred says. “You're laying in bed and all of a sudden the whole world feels like it's coming to an end.”

Fred asked to keep his identity hidden, but he says those bullets went through his home – two through his bed and some even through to his kitchen. You can see holes across the front of his home.

"They pretty much scattered through,” he says. “They busted that window to heck…You fear getting out of bed or going to bed. My daughter hasn't been sleeping in her room since it happened.”

One time, police found 11 shell casings.

“I feel bad for the neighbors because they have to see this going on and they shouldn't have to,” Fred says.

All they want?

“Catch the people and punish them put them to jail,” he says. “That's where they need to be.”

Spokane police is offering a cash reward for any information. Call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit the tip via the Internet website www.crimestoppersinlandnorthwest.org.

HELSINKI (AP) - Standing next to Russia’s Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump openly questioned his own intelligence agencies’ conclusions that Moscow was to blame for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election to Trump’s benefit and seemed to accept Putin’s insistence that Russia’s hands were clean.
