SPOKANE, Wash. -

UPDATE: In a tweet Thursday afternoon, WSDOT announced that the eastbound lanes of the highway would open at 7 p.m. They said crews were working to get the westbound lanes open as well, but they didn't state a time that they would be back open.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE: The Washington State Department of Transportation says they expect Snoqualmie Pass to be closed all day due to weather conditions.

Crews worked all night on avalanche control and road clearing and will reevaluate conditions Thursday evening. WSDOT says in the past week they've had more than eight feet of snow.

DOT says they hope to open Stevens Pass is now open. Chains are required except on AWD.

Weather Forecast for the Inland Northwest:

Winter Weather Advisory: continues through 4pm Thursday for an additional 1-3" of snow. Winter Storm Warnings are still in the mountains of Idaho for 4-8" of snow.

Mtn. Travel: it will be extremely slow. Keep up to date on WSDOT and the Idaho Trans portion. Snow continues to fall and there is high avalanche danger.

Thursday: snow showers will continue through the day. Still have a chance within some of these showers to see higher amounts of snow with quick bursts of heavy snow. In all another 1-3" possible during the day. High temperatures topping out right around 30 degrees.

Satellite & Radar: A large ridge of high pressure is expected to start to build off in the Pacific, and while normally that's a good thing for our weather, it will push MUCH colder air into the Inland Northwest by Christmas Day.

7 Day Forecast: Snow chances will start to decrease after Thursday afternoon, but then our attention turns to the temperatures. Overnight lows in the single digits and teens possible through the holiday weekend, with high temperatures topping out in the low-mid 20s. Basically, all the snow on the ground will freeze.
