COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says a 22-year-old woman drove her car in Fernan Lake Sunday night, managed to escape and swim to a nearby dock, then flag down a passing motorist for help - all with a blood alcohol content greater than .20.

Deputies say 22-year-old Tiana E. Pierce of Coeur d'Alene was driving on Fernan Lake Road near Fernan Village when she lost control, went over an embankment and into Fernan Lake. Pierce managed to escape from her Subaru Impreza as it was sinking and swim to a nearby dock. She then made it to the road where someone gave her a ride to a nearby gas station. Pierce told a Coeur d'Alene Police Officer at the gas station that she was unsure if anyone else was in the vehicle.

Members from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office Dive Team were sent out to the lake to search the car, which was completely submerged about 20 feet from shore, but there were no signs of anyone else being in the car.

Pierce was not injured, but deputies say her blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit and she was subsequently arrested for Excessive Blood Alcohol Content (BAC > .20) - Driving Under the Influence.
