Vote for Jerry! Vote for Jerry!
SPANGLE, Wash. -

A local high school janitor is in the running for a very prestigious award, but he needs your vote!

Yeah sure, it's been 15 years since I graduated (wow), but being an alum of Liberty High School in Spangle, I can tell you first hand that Jerry Ottosen deserves the title of Janitor of the Year. The contest is hosted by Cintas Corporation and aims to shine a light on those who work behind the scenes to make our schools clean and safe.

Out of the hundreds of nominations that were received, Jerry was chosen as one of the ten finalists in the running, and the only finalist on the west coast. If he wins, he'll receive $5,000 along with $5000 in products and services for Liberty High School from Cintas and Rubbermaid. Pretty cool!

Why does Jerry deserve to win? Here is his bio from the contest page:

For the last 38.5 YEARS, Jerry Ottosen has been smiling. Always eager to learn new skills, Jerry strives to provide the cleanest school possible for “his” students and staff. But that’s not always an easy task at Liberty High School which is located in the middle of a wheat field. Despite the dust and mud that surrounds the school, Jerry somehow manages to create a clean and healthy environment for students and staff to learn each day. Described as a team player, Jerry is constantly trying to help students, staff and community members with his helpful attitude and relentless work ethic. As someone who is always working hard with a positive attitude and a smile, Jerry is a wonderful role model to both students and staff. Liberty High School is a better place because of Jerry – he definitely makes a difference each and every day!

Seriously. A school surrounded by wheat fields is not an easy thing to keep clean, but Jerry always has Liberty High School immaculate. Clean enough to eat off the floors (Which I may have done willingly a few times. Jackass on MTV was popular at the time. Don't judge.) So if you'd like to take a moment and throw a vote to Jerry (and possibly share this story with your friends so they can also vote), CLICK HERE.

Voting closes April 15, 2016.

KHQ.COM - Most mothers can only hope by the time their children grow up and move out of the house, they've learned all the necessary things to be a successful adult, including the basic knowledge that a turkey must be cooked in an oven, or perhaps in a smoker... NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
