Mead man says he saw 16-year-old hit, killed in yard

Posted: Updated:
MEAD, Wash. -

Deputies say the young girl hit and killed in Mead wasn't in her 20s as they originally thought, but they now say she was just 16 years old. They say the crash happened near 2nd and Market Saturday afternoon.

Mike Wiseman says he was in his front yard when he saw the Jeep run her over.

"I will never forget the sight of her laying there in a rag doll position," Wiseman said.

Wiseman says he rushed over to help, but it was too late.

"When I walked up and saw her, she was gone," he said.

His memorial is small and humble, but he hopes it helps drivers remember to be safe,  because he won't be getting the memory of what happened out of his head any time soon.

"It's a shame people can't slow down. A young life has been taken, and I don't think this community will ever be the same," Wiseman said.

The Spokane Sheriff's Office says this is an ongoing investigation, and the driver could face vehicular homicide charges.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses. You can contribute to that fund here.
