Help local blind girl win special bike through the Great Bike Giveaway

Brooklyn needs your help! Brooklyn needs your help!
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The goal of the Great Bike Giveaway is to give away 600 bikes to children with special needs, but it may come down to drawing winners.

One little girl who really needs your help to win.

At just four months old, Brooklyn Page was diagnosed as legally blind.

"The doctor was pretty blatant," says Brooklyn's mother, Brittany Page.   "He was like 'she's blind, she'll never see.'"

At first her parents were devastated.  Brooklyn had under developed optical nerves, but as she got older they learned she could see a little bit.  One doctor described it to her parents as if she were looking through straws.

"Her depth perception is way off though," says Brittany.  "We got her a bike when she was about four years old with the training wheels and everything but because of her balance and her vision, we were never successful at it."

So her mother entered her in the Great Bike Giveaway contest, hoping to win one that she could ride.

"We entered for a tandem.  Brooklyn, because she's visually impaired, would be in front of me, but I would be the one steering," says Brittany.  "She'd still feel like she's riding on her own bike though."

For Brooklyn, the little girl with the big personality, that would be a dream come true.   "I'll be so happy if I get the bike!"

As for her parents, it's the least they can do to try and keep a smile on their little girl's face.   "She's the most amazing person I know," says Brittany smiling fondly at her young daughter.

Brooklyn needs your help to win!  You can vote for her, but you must have Facebook to do so.  Voting closes on March 30th and the drawing for winners is only March 31st.  You can also donate so that other children can receive bikes.  The link is below.

SPOKANE, Wash. - In the rain, snow or sunshine, you expect to get your mail. But two blocks of one Shadle neighborhood is upset, after their mail delivery gets cut off. Neighbors found out it was because of a safety concern to the mail carriers in the area. But some of the folks who live around here say it’s tough to go to the post office to get their mail because most of them are elderly.
