SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -

Spokane Valley firefighters and the technical rescue team responded to the area of Flora and Sullivan Roads Friday afternoon after a report of an overturned kayaks and two people in the river.

When crews arrived, they found an elderly couple who had flipped their kayaks and made their way to shore on the north side of the river. The couple sustained minor injuries and were reported to have slight hypothermia. Crews assisted the couple up the slope of the river bank, employing the SVFD technical rescue team and their specialized equipment, where they were further assessed and taken to a local hospital.

The fire department reminds people that the Spokane River is flowing fast and is still very cold at this time of year. Consider your skill level and obtain appropriate equipment before venturing into the river for any reason.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It's been an incredibly difficult couple of months for Kaley Hilderbrand and her family. "We're in the middle of moving from an apartment to a house," Hilderbrand said.  It's not something the mom of a brand new baby girl though she would be doing. Back in April, the soon-to-be-married mother of three was living in a north Spokane apartment complex when she received an angry letter about doing laundry at night.
