SPOKANE, Wash. -

The remains of an abandoned trailer home that were dumped in an East Spokane neighborhood are making those who live there impatient.

KHQ first reported that the owner of the mobile home hired a private company to move the trailer about two weeks ago. The contractor only made it a few blocks before leaving it on city property at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Havana.

The Department of Transportation gave the party responsible 72 hours to remove it, but that never happened. The company was ticketed for illegal dumping which is a $536 fine.

The DOT says they will now have to remove the pile using taxpayer dollars, but that won’t happen for at least one more week because they still has to hire a contractor.

The DOT tells KHQ they gave the private company the option to move the trailer, but they declined.

Now, neighbors are stuck with the eyesore that rests across the street.

"How it happened is one of those things that makes you wonder,” said Wendy McGraw, who lives across the street from the abandoned trailer. "It's not beautiful to look at."

McGraw says what's left of the trailer itself isn’t as much of a concern as what still sits on top of it.

"The garbage is the main part right now,” she said. “Who knows what blows over from there? I have children with me all the time so I need to be aware of what's around me."

KHQ.COM - Most mothers can only hope by the time their children grow up and move out of the house, they've learned all the necessary things to be a successful adult, including the basic knowledge that a turkey must be cooked in an oven, or perhaps in a smoker... NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
