SEATTLE -

Authorities say a Seattle Police Department sergeant has been arrested on allegations of child abuse.

Seattle Police said in a news release that Lake Forest Park Police Department detectives with support from other agencies arrested the man on Friday without incident.

Investigators say they believe the sergeant had been engaging in long-term abuse of his two daughters.

Seattle Police say they took action after receiving a report of abuse. Lake Forest Park police have been leading the investigation.

Police have not released the officer's identity. He's been booked into jail pending charges.

An allegation of abuse against the same employee was investigated in 2013 but the prosecutor declined to file charges due to insufficient evidence.

Police say they don't believe there's a threat to the public or additional abuse allegations outside his family.
