Three injured from fall off roof in downtown Coeur d'Alene

Posted: Updated:
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

Three people are injured and in the hospital after falling off of a building in downtown Coeur d’Alene over the weekend.

Coeur d’Alene Fire says two women and a man were sitting on a parapet on top of the building on Sherman Avenue, and then the parapet gave way, falling about two stories.

One woman was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and the other two are recovering at Kootenai Health.

The building’s owner tells KHQ he has fences and walls up to prevent people from getting onto the roof, and the parapet isn’t something built to hold up people. Parapets have a variety of uses, including as decoration. He calls the entire situation and their injuries “incredibly unfortunate.”

The city’s building department had an inspector out at the building Monday to make sure the rest of the parapet is solid and won’t fall down.
