Spokane Police officer helps save driver and 3 children

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The quick actions of a Spokane Police officer helped save the life of a driver and three children.

According to police, a driver was having a medical emergency while driving near Division and Indiana at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

An officer was unable to stop the driver, who eventually jumped the median and collided with a car on the other side of the road.

Police were then unable to get the driver to unlock the door or shut off the engine. That’s when police used two cruisers to pin the SUV, stopping the driver from taking off.

Deanne Storch was able to convince one of the three children to roll down the window.

Ofc. Storch then unlocked the vehicle and turned off the engine.

“It was like I could hear cheers in the background,” said Ofc. Storch. “It was like ‘yay’ it was relief, absolute relief.”

Ofc. Storch says she’s no hero, but that she was just doing her job.

The driver of the SUV was treated at the hospital. He will recover.
