Management trying to clean up West Wynn Motel's image

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The West Wynn Motel has been in the headlines twice in the last week – one for a deadly stabbing and the other for the officer-involved shooting Monday.

Police are looking at options to improve the area, but this effort has really been the mission of the new manager at the motel.

“The last few days have been pretty stressful,” she says.

Manager Melissa Gunion has only been on the job for five months, and she's already had to handle a lot.

“It is frustrating,” she says.

Most recently, police shot a man who was staying at the motel, Aaron Johnson. In the past, before her time at the motel, there have been other issues too.

That's exactly what Melissa is trying to change by implementing standards. They’re not tolerating crime.

“Especially if they're going to be fighting and arguing and tearing up our business then we're not going to stand for it,” she says.

Security cameras, new mattresses and pillows - these are just some of the things she's changed so far. She’s also working on renovating the rooms at the motel.

“I think this is exciting to take something bad and turn it into something good,” she says.

She has the passion for the challenge.

“Every little thing matters that we do in life. It matters. And these people matter.”

HELSINKI (AP) - Standing next to Russia’s Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump openly questioned his own intelligence agencies’ conclusions that Moscow was to blame for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election to Trump’s benefit and seemed to accept Putin’s insistence that Russia’s hands were clean.
