Feds: Man throws tantrum on Alaska Airlines flight after not being served beer

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, Ore. -

Let me lay out a scenario for you.

A person asks someone for something. That person is denied their request. That person then locks themselves in a bathroom while screaming and pounding on the door.

Is this person:

A.) a 5-year-old child

B.) A 32-year-old Portland man who was denied a beer on an Alaskan Airlines flight

If you answered "B" then you've won.

A federal indictment unsealed Tuesday says 32-year-old Luke Watts was on a flight from from Sacramento to Seattle in March when he threatened to become violent if flight attendants didn't serve him a beer. He then apparently demanded that flight attendants give him a hug.

Recap: No beer. No hugs. There's nothing else to do except lock yourself in a bathroom while screaming and pounding on the door, right? Apparently.

The pilot was alerted to the tantrum and decided to land the plane in Portland. At least it was in his hometown.

It's not clear from court documents or prosecutors whether the flight attendants had refused to serve him alcohol, or they were just out. A trial is scheduled for July, where Watts will face a charge of interfering with a flight crew.
