Early morning Spokane Valley standoff ends in arrest

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -

Just after midnight on Sunday morning, Spokane Valley Sheriff's deputies responded to a fight call that involved both men and women in the 9500 block if East 4th in Spokane Valley. A caller told deputies that a gun was also involved.

When deputies arrived on scene and made their way to the house, arguing could be heard and a man, identified as 36-year-old Latroy W. Allen was seen yelling at a man and woman. Allen was holding a semi-automatic handgun, waving it around and pointing it at the man and woman while he was yelling.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the house and requested SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team because they didn't know whether Allen was holding the man and woman against their will.

Deputies made several announcements over their PA system for the people to come out of the house, but they didn't. After about two hours, everyone came out of the house and Allen was taken into custody without incident.

A total of five adults and two children left the house. No one was harmed.

Allen is a convicted felon and was booked into Spokane County Jail for two counts of second degree Assault and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

What's the first thing you would do if you had a pet translator and you could understand your dog or cat? I'd probably immediately let my cat know how sorry I am for stepping on her tail all those times. Recent advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning suggest the dream of communicating with your pets could become a reality.
