COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

It’s a pet owner’s worst fear that came true for the owners of a cat in Coeur d’Alene.

On Thursday, Carson Kelley and Katelyn Halpin found their cat, Red, outside of their home, meowing, with a blow gun dart sticking out between his eyes.

Red is now recovering, but his owners are wondering who would do this to him.

“He’s just completely sweet always,” Halpin says. “He always sticks around here and keeps to himself. That's why it's even more perturbing to me that someone would go out and do this.”

You can still see the wound near Red’s eye after the incident. As soon as they found out about Red, they rushed him to the animal hospital.

“I was just in a panic because I thought it was in his brain and it was just the last piece keeping him alive,” Kelley says. Kelley got Red for his 9th birthday, and they’ve been together since. Thankfully, they found out this cat has nine lives. The 4-inch dart just missed Red’s brain and vets took it out.

Now, the owners want justice for Red.

“This is unacceptable,” Halpin says. “These are weapons and someone is just shooting them around the neighborhood. What's going to happen next?”

Katelyn has a plea.

“Whoever did this just please just don't hurt anything else,” she says. “Just stop please. We do not need this in this neighborhood. We don't need this anywhere.”

Katelyn and Carson say they are working with animal control now to find out who did this.
