SPOKANE, Wash. -

KHQ obtained the results of the lead testing done at Spokane Public School District.

All of the schools in the district tested below the EPA standard of amount of lead in the water before action is required.  The action level is fifteen parts per billion.

Thirteen schools in the district tested at zero, which means there was no traceable amount of lead found in the water.   That left forty schools where trace amounts of lead were detected.

The schools in the district with the highest lead levels are Audubon Elementary with 11.3 parts per billion, Sheridan Elementary which tested at 12.9 parts per billion and Bryant Campus TEC with 13.7 parts per billion.

SPS says they are "cautiously optimistic" about the results of the testing.  The district says they feel it is "100% safe for children to drink the water at any of the schools" and they plan to continue to test and monitor lead levels.

While these are below the levels where action is required by the EPA, agencies like the CDC are starting to stress the idea that any amount of lead, no matter how slight, could cause a problem.

If you are concerned about your child's exposure to lead, you should get their blood lead levels tested.
