Two teenage boys killed in crash near Post Falls identified

UPDATE: 

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office has identified the driver of the 2002 Jaguar convertible as 17-year-old Monte Thomson Jr. of Veradale, Washington and his passenger as 17-year-old Leo C. Neal of Post Falls. 

Initial investigation at the scene indicate the car, a 2002 Jaguar convertible, was westbound on Hayden Avenue from Idaho Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, crashing through a fence, rolling and crashing through a line of trees, striking a gas line before coming to rest.

Alcohol was present at the scene however it is not known at this time if it was a factor in the crash. The Sheriff's Office says autopsy and toxicology results won't be available for several weeks.

If anyone has information regarding the crash or was in the area around the time that it occurred they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Traffic Investigation Team at (208)446-1300.

UPDATE: 

We have confirmed that one of the teens who died went to Post Falls High School and the school district says grief counselors will be available for students on Tuesday if they need it.

On Monday, May 23, 2016, at approximately 8:45 PM, members of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and Kootenai County Fire/EMS were dispatched to the 11500 Block of W. Hayden Avenue, near Post Falls, for a report of a serious vehicle crash. The first calls into the Kootenai County 911 Center indicated that the vehicle ruptured a natural gas line as well. Once on scene, deputies and EMS personnel confirmed the gas line was ruptured and discovered the wreckage of a passenger car and two deceased males.

The crash killed a 17 year old male from Post Falls, Idaho and a 17 year old male from Veradale, Washington. The names of the victims are being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Alcohol was present at the scene however it is not known at this time if it was a factor in the crash.

Hayden Avenue was closed for several hours. The crash remains under investigation by the Kootenai County Traffic Team. Further details will be released as they become available

    POST FALLS, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says a 40-year-old Post Falls man is in critical condition after falling off his inner tube on the Spokane River Saturday evening.  Deputies responded to the Corbin Park area for a report of a possible drowning at around 6:00 p.m. Witnesses say the man had fallen off his inner tube and not resurfaced.
