Cleaned out: Cancer patient says she was burglarized by house keeper

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

A mother battling cancer is now fearing for her safety after she says she was burglarized. She  fears the offender may come back for more.

Aimee Kowell is facing a variety of cancer treatments that leave her feeling weak. She saw an ad on Craigslist from a woman promising to clean for next to nothing.

"I was not feeling good this past week," she said. "It was the perfect opportunity to have some help."

Aimee said when the housekeeper arrived, everything seemed normal. She was home the entire time and noticed nothing suspicious.

"I didn't watch her the whole time," she said.

But she know fears she should have.

"I feel very violated," she said.

Shortly after the woman left, Aimee said she noticed her iPod was gone. She then discovered missing jewelry.

"She just kind of helped herself," she said. "My whole world's just been turned upside down."

Aimee did file a police report. Officers are looking into the case.

Spokane Police Officers said before you hire someone from Craigslist, call their references and ensure they are licensed. They also said if something seems too good to be true price wise, it probably is.
