Northwest Spokane neighbors tired of graffiti

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

One Northwest Spokane neighborhood is fed up with graffiti. People woke up Saturday to dark blue paint on their homes and fences, and it’s not the first time.

“Everybody’s tired of it,” says Kirk Fry.

Fry has lived on the block for more than two decades. This is the worst he’s ever seen.

“It’s getting worse,” he says.

It seems like every time his neighbors put on a new coat of paint, more graffiti appears on top of it.

“It's just been constant for the last few months. If it isn't one thing, it's something else. And we don't see any assistance with it,” he says.

Neighbors did report this rash of graffiti, and even found a spray can with a fingerprint in paint on it. They’ve called Crime Check and are hoping to turn it over to Spokane Police.

As they clean up again, they want whoever’s doing this to know they’re watching and have a message for them.

“Find something more mature and constructive to do,” Fry says. “Destroying things is not cool. There's so many other things you can do to help people to make things better for all of us.”

Neighbors tell KHQ they plan on installing lights and cameras to hopefully prevent this from happening again. They also say they hope to see more of a police presence in the area.

Here’s some advice from the city to help prevent graffiti tagging:

Keep your property well-lit

Install surveillance cameras to monitor activity on your property

Use materials that make this kind of vandalism difficult

Make sure you report graffiti to both Crime Check at 509-456-2233 and the Graffiti Hotline 509-755-CITY. For more information, visit https://my.spokanecity.org/police/prevention/graffiti/
